NPRD Master Plan – Community Survey Results

A community-wide survey was conducted Jan.-March 2024. Here is an overview of what people had to say.
— 90 surveys were submitted.
— 79% of respondents live in Norwood & immediate vicinity. The remainder come from San Miguel & Montrose county residents, and Telluride/Mountain Village.
— 83% have lived here 6 or more years.
— 29% of respondents are unaware or do not use NPRD recreational opportunities.
— 74% of respondents who are aware of NPRD offerings believe NPRD is somewhat or completely meeting the physical, mental, cultural, and social needs of the community. And 67% sometimes or frequently participate.
About the NPRD Facilities (Oliver House, The Livery, and Yard):
— 87% of respondents have participated in events or classes utilizing the NPRD Facilities. For: #1 Community events, #2 Live performance, #3 NPRD Programs, #4 Wedding or Party.
* Amenities – Multiple requests were made for updates to amenities within the facilities including to bathrooms, technology, and water fountain.
* Reservation Process – Respondents expressed concern over ease of reservation process and responsiveness from the facilities.
* Appreciation – The overwhelming majority of responses indicate that community members appreciate the NPRD facilities and believe they are community assets.
About Parks and Recreational facilities within the District:
What respondents have used –

About Near Term (next 5-10 years) priorities:
— Highest Priority – Completion of the Norwood Town Trail with a mean score of 3.98 out of 5.00.
— Lowest Priority – Regulation sized courts with a mean score of 2.52 out of 5.00.
About Long Range (10-15 years) priorities:
— Highest Priority – Indoor Recreation Center with a mean score of 3.97 out of 5.00.
— Lowest Priority – Golf Course with a mean score of 1.64 out of 5.00.
Is it a higher priority to provide a well-staff ed array of programs and events or save up to
build facilities? Equally divided results among “..programs”, “..facilities”, and “Unsure.
Any Other Comments:
— Pool – The most repeated response was the desire for a pool within Norwood. Community members specify an outdoor pool would be mo
re affordable.
— Inclusive programming – respondents indicated that programming for individuals over 65 and fully accessible spaces and programs are important.
