Phase I of this project began in June of 2011 after nearly 2 years of planning. Phase I focused on the construction of a new regulation-size baseball field on land owned by the Norwood School District where an old field in disrepair previously existed. This phase included underground irrigation, turf, bleachers, dug outs, fencing, and equipment. Previous to this project, there were no regulation-size baseball fields in Norwood, and although Little League baseball and softball programs are very popular with local children, there were no fields for older youth to continue playing the sport. This field has been a community goal for many years, and it was a top priority for the newly formed Park and Recreation District. This baseball field is projected to benefit many people in the community, including allowing the formation of youth teams, a Norwood High School team and adult teams, as well as facilitating regional tournaments.
